Hilton opened the Motto by Hilton Recife Antigo in Recife, Brazil, this week, marking the first time the lifestyle brand has operated in the country. The 132-room property is part of a broader expansion of the Motto brand across Latin America. This move follows Hilton’s strategy to grow its lifestyle portfolio, which includes plans to triple the number of Motto properties globally in the coming years.

A New Chapter for Hilton in Brazil

The opening represents more than just a single hotel launch. It is Hilton’s official entry into Recife, a city often called the ‘Venice of Brazil’ due to its network of canals, colorful colonial architecture, and deep cultural traditions. The hotel is a partnership between Hilton, REVPAR Incorporações, MUV Empreendimentos, and Atlantica Hospitality International.

“As we continue expanding our portfolio in key destinations across Latin America, we are thrilled to introduce a new brand in Brazil,” said Maxime Verstraete, vice president of brand management for Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton. “Motto by Hilton Recife Antigo is shaped by the energy of the city and encourages gathering. It creates a new type of stay for guests who want one-of-a-kind local experiences in one of Brazil’s most captivating destinations.”

The Motto brand focuses on immersion. Instead of the standardized feel of traditional midscale hotels, this property uses design and dining to reflect the landscapes of Pernambuco. This approach distinguishes it from the more corporate Hilton or DoubleTree brands in the region.

Room Layouts for Groups and Families

While many lifestyle hotels focus on solo travelers or couples, the Motto by Hilton Recife Antigo provides specific configurations for larger groups. The 132-room inventory includes connecting rooms. This layout is a practical choice for families or groups of friends who travel together.

Standard hotel configurations often force groups to book rooms in different parts of a hallway, which limits interaction. The connecting rooms at this property allow guests to share a common entry point while maintaining separate sleeping areas and private bathrooms. This provides a middle ground between the lack of privacy in a single large suite and the total separation of two disconnected rooms. For travelers with older children or those traveling in small social groups, this configuration is a significant logistical advantage in a city where social, communal experiences are central to the local culture.

Maximizing Hilton Honors in the Region

Travelers can use the Hilton Honors loyalty program to book stays at this new location. For those looking to optimize their budget, the loyalty ecosystem offers several specific advantages in Brazil.

One of the most effective ways to accumulate points for a stay in Recife is through the Amex Membership Rewards program. Amex members can transfer points to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. This makes it easier to reach the required point totals for award stays. While the per-point value for Hilton Honors is generally lower than Hyatt—roughly 0.5 to 0.6 cents per point compared to Hyatt’s ~1.7 cents—the scale of the Hilton network in Brazil provides more reliability for frequent travelers.

Another key benefit is the ‘5th night free’ rule on award stays. If a traveler uses points to book a stay of five consecutive nights, they only pay for four. This is a significant value multiplier for anyone planning a week-long trip to the Pernambuco coast. Compared to Marriott, which often has caps on free night certificates, Hilton Honors offers more flexibility with uncapped certificates and no blackout dates on standard room awards. This makes it a strong choice for travelers who want predictable availability in emerging markets like Brazil.

Travel Tips for the Antigo District

To reach the hotel, travelers should fly into Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC). The airport is the primary gateway to the state of Pernambuco.

Once you land at REC, the most efficient way to reach the Antigo district is via a taxi or a rideshare service. The drive typically takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on local traffic. The Antigo district is a historic area, so it is best to arrive during daylight hours to navigate the colonial streets easily.

When booking, travelers should check if their Hilton Honors status offers upgrades to these connecting room configurations. Because the hotel is a new opening, availability for specific room types may fluctuate. It is advisable to book at least three weeks in advance if you require connecting rooms for a group. Most travelers find that the Antigo district is highly walkable, so you do not need a car once you arrive at the hotel. You can access the local canals and cultural sites on foot.

For those planning a trip, the hotel is now accepting reservations through the Hilton website and the Hilton Honors app.
