New Delta Onboard Entertainment Updates Launch July 1

Delta is launching new onboard movies and a commemorative welcome video on July 1 to celebrate America's 250th anniversary across its global fleet.

New Delta Onboard Entertainment Updates Launch July 1

Delta Air Lines (DL) will launch a new commemorative welcome video and film collection on July 1 to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Commemorative Films and Video Features

The welcome video, ‘An Occasion to Remember,’ features CEO Ed Bastian. This video plays on more than 165,000 seatback screens across the Delta global fleet. The ‘Star, Stripes & Stories’ film collection includes Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, Independence Day, Lincoln, Hidden Figures, Elvis, Field of Dreams, First Man, To Kill a Mockingbird, Wizard of Oz, and The Years Between Us. The collection also features Delta’s Why We Dream and Freedom250’s Washington Monument Projection & New Year’s Eve Show.

Competitive Landscape: Seatback Screens vs. Personal Devices

Delta is using the anniversary to reinforce its identity as an American carrier. This differentiates Delta from Southwest Airlines, which does not provide seatback screens and requires passengers to use personal devices. While United Airlines (UA) also provides a large entertainment library on seatback hardware, Delta uses its 165,000 screens to distribute this specific commemorative content.

These amenities are a factor travelers weigh when choosing between Delta and low-cost carriers. Delta SkyMiles members use a dynamic pricing model where the cost of award flights changes based on demand. Travelers can transfer American Express Membership Rewards at a 1:1 ratio to redeem miles. For Medallion status holders—Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond tiers—these features are a standard part of the in-flight experience.

Planning Your Flight

Travelers who fly Delta on or after July 1 can check specific in-flight amenities through the Delta mobile app.
