New Hilton Luxury Hotel Coming to Costa Rica in 2029
Hilton announces Maravé Manuel Antonio, a new LXR luxury hotel and residences in Costa Rica. Discover details on this 2029 resort opening.
New Hilton Luxury Hotel Coming to Costa Rica in 2029
Hilton announced the signing of Maravé Manuel Antonio, LXR Hotels & Resorts, which marks the brand’s first LXR property in Costa Rica. The resort is scheduled to open in 2029. This development is part of a larger expansion by Hilton into the luxury market across Latin America. The project includes a mix of hotel rooms and branded luxury residences on a 40-acre estate near Manuel Antonio National Park.
Architectural Vision and Accommodations
The property sits on a beachfront estate. The land descends from a rainforest ridge to 650 feet of Pacific coastline. The resort contains 173 total accommodations. This total includes 57 hotel-specific units. These units consist of 42 ocean-view guest rooms and 15 private bungalows with plunge pools. The remaining 116 units are fully furnished luxury residences. These are known as Maravé Manuel Antonio, LXR Residences.
Carazo Arquitectura designed the seven-story property. The design follows the natural shape of the terrain. The resort features the largest mass timber structure in Costa Rica. This construction method uses wood to reduce the carbon footprint of the building. Mass timber is a sustainable alternative to concrete and steel. It sequesters carbon within the structure and helps the building blend into the surrounding rainforest canopy.
Chicago-based Curioso designed the interiors. The design uses natural stone and wood. These materials create a connection between the indoor spaces and the outdoor environment. The Beach Club is the social hub of the resort. It has several pools. There is an oceanfront restaurant. The club also provides private cabanas. For nightlife, the resort has the MARAVÉ Speakeasy Bar. This space has reserved seating for residents and hotel guests. The property also includes:
- Two chef-led restaurants that use local sea-to-table ingredients.
- A wellness sanctuary and spa for restorative treatments.
- A fitness center with views of the jungle and the sea.
- A youth and activity club for families.
Maximizing Hilton Honors at Maravé
While owners of the branded residences receive Hilton Honors Diamond status, standard travelers can access the property through the broader Hilton Honors ecosystem. This connection provides a clear value proposition for high-end travelers who frequent luxury resorts.
Hilton Honors points have a lower value than Hyatt points. Hilton points are worth roughly 0.5 to 0.6 cents each. Hyatt points are worth approximately 1.7 cents. However, Hilton points are easier to accumulate in large quantities. You can earn points through credit cards like the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.
Unlike Marriott Bonvoy, which often has caps on the value of free night certificates, Hilton Honors offers uncapped free night certificates through certain card products. This is a benefit for travelers who plan long stays at luxury properties. Members also use the “5th night free” benefit on award stays. This benefit lowers the effective cost of a vacation. If you have Amex Membership Rewards points, you can transfer them to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. This is a practical way to fund stays at high-end resorts like Maravé.
Logistics and Sustainability
Travelers can reach the Manuel Antonio area via two main airports. You can fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) or Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR). A drive from SJO takes approximately three to four hours. Many travelers choose to rent a car or book a private shuttle for this route.
The best time to visit the Costa Rican coast is during the dry season. This season runs from December to April. During these months, the weather is more predictable for outdoor activities like hiking near the national park.
The use of mass timber is a central part of the resort’s environmental strategy. Large-scale timber construction is less invasive to the local ecosystem than traditional methods. The wood helps the structure sit more naturally within the biodiversity of the rainforest ridge. This approach addresses the need for luxury development that respects the existing environment.
Investment and Booking Outlook
This project is a long-term opportunity for both travelers and investors. You cannot book a stay at the hotel today because construction is not complete. However, sales for the branded residences are expected to begin in the fall of 2026. These residences include 66 private villas, 46 oceanfront condominiums, and four penthouses. Hilton has more than 150 hotels in its development pipeline for Latin America. This new signing follows the recent opening of the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique.
