Search Hilton Hotels Using Points via Google AI
Hilton is rolling out new AI tools for Google, ChatGPT, and Claude, letting you search for hotels and Hilton Honors points availability using natural language.
Search Hilton Hotels Using Points via Google AI
Hilton has announced it is connecting the entire trip-planning journey—from initial search to final stay—through new generative AI integrations across Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Claude. By embedding its data into these conversational interfaces, the hotel giant aims to transform the way travelers move from a passing idea to a confirmed reservation.
Revolutionizing Discovery Through Conversational Search
Hilton is changing how you find and book rooms by embedding its data into the AI assistants you already use. Through a new partnership with Google, travelers will soon be able to use Google’s AI Mode to discover Hilton properties and compare options using natural language. This feature, expected to roll out in the coming weeks, allows users to explore reward availability directly within a conversational search experience.
Instead of toggling between a search engine and the Hilton app, you can use prompts such as, “Show me hotels in San Diego (SAN) I can book with Hilton Honors Points for the first weekend of September.” When you find an option you like, the interface will redirect you to Hilton.com to complete the reservation and redeem your points.
For those who use ChatGPT, a new Hilton plugin allows you to ask specific questions about properties and receive recommendations within the chat interface. “As travel planning becomes more conversational, these innovations help turn a passing idea into a place to go, a hotel to choose and a stay to look forward to,” Hilton stated in its recent announcement regarding the launch of the Hilton AI Planner.
A Guide to High-Value AI Travel Prompts
To get the most out of these new tools, travelers should move beyond simple destination queries. The power of generative AI lies in its ability to handle multi-layered constraints. Here are several high-value prompts you can use to streamline your planning:
- For Point Maximization: “Find a Hilton Honors property near London Heathrow (LHR) with a pool that I can book using points.”
- For Specific Amenities: “Show me pet-friendly hotels in San Diego (SAN) under 40,000 points for next weekend.”
- For Luxury Comparisons: “Compare the Waldorf Astoria and Conrad in Tokyo (HND) for a family of four, focusing on suite availability.”
- For Budget-Conscious Planning: “Find the best value Hilton properties in Paris (CDG) that offer free breakfast and are within walking distance of the metro.”
The ‘Claude Connector’ and the Future of Visual Search
One of the most anticipated developments is the upcoming Claude Connector. While current AI interactions are largely text-based, Hilton is developing this tool to bring property images, pricing, and specific details directly into Anthropic’s Claude assistant.
This represents a significant shift in how travelers compare accommodations. By combining visual search (property images) with Large Language Model (LLM) reasoning, the Claude Connector will allow users to perform a qualitative analysis of a hotel. Instead of just reading that a hotel is “modern,” a user could ask Claude to compare the aesthetic of a Hilton Garden Inn against a DoubleTree based on their provided imagery. This visual reasoning helps travelers distinguish between the high-end, sleek environments of a Conrad and the more approachable, warm atmosphere of a Hampton by Hilton, providing much-needed context that text alone cannot convey.
Maximizing Your Hilton Honors Points
This move toward conversational search is particularly useful for travelers who rely on the Hilton Honors loyalty program. Because the new Google AI integration allows for points-based queries, it removes one of the biggest hurdles in travel planning: knowing if a redemption is actually available before you leave your search engine.
If you are a frequent traveler, you likely know that Hilton Honors points have a baseline value of approximately 0.5 to 0.6 cents per point. While this is lower than the value you might get from Hyatt points (which can reach 1.7 cents or more), Hilton makes up for it with a massive global footprint and easier earning mechanics.
For example, you can earn large amounts of points through co-branded credit cards like the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card or the Hilton Honors American Express Card. If you have American Express Membership Rewards, you can transfer them to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio, which can quickly build a balance for a high-end stay at a Waldorf Astoria or Conrad property.
Unlike Marriott Bonvoy, which often uses capped free night certificates, Hilton Honors provides uncapped free night certificates to many of its elite members. The new AI tools make it much faster to figure out where those certificates or your accumulated points will go the furthest. The search functionality also makes it easier to take advantage of the “5th night free” benefit on award stays, a perk that remains a staple of the Hilton ecosystem.
AI Convenience vs. Traditional Booking UX
While the AI-driven experience offers unparalleled speed during the inspiration phase, it is important to understand how it differs from the traditional Hilton Honors App experience.
The traditional app experience is “menu-driven.” It is designed for precision and management—filtering by specific price points, selecting exact room types, and managing your Digital Key. It is a high-friction but high-control environment.
In contrast, the AI experience is “intent-driven.” It excels at the messy, early stages of travel where you know how you want to feel (e.g., “relaxed,” “adventurous,” or “near the beach”) but haven’t yet settled on a specific hotel. While the AI can find the hotel, the Hilton Honors App remains the superior tool for the logistics of the stay itself, such as mobile check-in and communicating with hotel staff.
The Privacy Trade-off: Convenience vs. Data Security
As travelers embrace these tools, they must also consider the implications of data security. Using AI assistants like ChatGPT or Google AI Mode requires sharing preferences—such as your travel dates, budget, and preferred locations—with third-party models.
For many, the convenience of an AI that “knows” you prefer high-floor rooms and specific loyalty programs outweighs the privacy concerns. However, users should be mindful that sharing detailed booking data or personal travel patterns with third-party AI companies creates a digital footprint that exists outside of Hilton’s direct control. A balanced approach involves using AI for the broad discovery and comparison phases, while reverting to Hilton’s direct platforms for the final, sensitive stages of entering payment information and personal identification.
From AI Search to In-Room Control
Once the AI tools help you move from a search query to a confirmed booking, the Hilton Honors App manages the rest of the experience. The app is the primary tool for the “stay” portion of the journey, providing features like mobile check-in and the ability to select your specific room before you arrive.
For properties that support it, the app provides a Digital Key, so you can skip the front desk entirely. The app also includes in-app messaging to contact hotel staff. Hilton is also leaning into “Connected Room” technology. This allows you to use your phone to control in-room elements, such as lighting or temperature, which provides a level of personalization that traditional hotel stays lack.
This end-to-end approach is an attempt to close the gap between the “inspiration” phase—where you might be asking ChatGPT for vacation ideas—and the seamless transition from digital discovery to physical arrival.
