A Breakdown of IHG’s Awarded Properties
The 51 awards are distributed among three primary brands. InterContinental is the luxury core of the group and focuses on high-end service and grand accommodations. Kimpton hotels are lifestyle brands that prioritize design and unique guest experiences. The Vignette Collection consists of independent luxury hotels.
The Michelin Key system is different from the Michelin Star system. Michelin Stars are for restaurant excellence. Michelin Keys are for hotel excellence. The criteria for a Michelin Key are service, character, and the unique personality of a property. This distinction helps luxury travelers find hotels with distinct identities rather than just standard amenities. This is a way for IHG to compete with luxury leaders like Marriott and Hilton. While Marriott has a large presence with brands such as Ritz-Carlton, IHG uses these honors to highlight the quality of its boutique and lifestyle hotels.
Strategies for Booking Michelin-Recognized Stays
Travelers can use IHG One Rewards points to book these properties. These points are worth 0.5 to 0.6 cents each. Members can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG at a 1:1 ratio.
To maximize value, travelers should use the IHG One Rewards app to filter for Michelin-recognized properties. Plan stays in four-night increments to trigger the 4th night free benefit. This is a better value than the 5th night free offered by Hilton or Marriott.
Free Night Certificates are another tool for these luxury stays. IHG allows unlimited point top-offs on these certificates. This is a benefit Marriott does not offer, because Marriott caps top-offs at 25,000 points. While Hilton offers a similar per-point value in some categories, the IHG luxury and lifestyle portfolio is larger.
Members can also reach elite tiers, from Club to Diamond Elite, through milestone rewards at various spending thresholds. Travelers can find specific availability for these 2026 award winners on the IHG website or through the mobile app.
