American Airlines and Hyatt End Loyalty Partnership
American Airlines and Hyatt are ending their enhanced loyalty partnership. Learn how this affects your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt points and rewards.
American Airlines and Hyatt End Loyalty Partnership
American Airlines and Hyatt are ending their enhanced loyalty partnership. The move will phase out specific earning and redemption benefits for AAdvantage and World of Hyatt members over the next two years.
“We are pleased with the value this relationship has delivered to our members,” the companies stated in a joint announcement. However, they have mutually decided to end the enhanced portion of the relationship.
Timeline for Linked Accounts
Members will not see an immediate loss of existing points. Both companies will preserve benefits for the remainder of the current earning year in each program. This includes the standard window to select an award after you earn it.
Members who linked their accounts by 11:59:59 p.m. CT on Nov. 15 have a buffer. AAdvantage members can continue to earn World of Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards until Feb. 28, 2027. World of Hyatt members who met that same Nov. 15 deadline can earn AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards until Dec. 31, 2026. If you missed the Nov. 15 deadline, you will revert to the standard earning rates for each program.
Earning AAdvantage Miles at Hyatt Hotels
AAdvantage members can still earn miles on Hyatt stays after the broader relationship concludes. You can choose to earn 500 AAdvantage miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible stays. To do this, provide your AAdvantage number at check-in.
This option helps if you want to reach a specific status tier, but 500 miles is a fixed amount. This might not offer the best value at high-end Hyatt properties where the point yield is higher.
Impact on Status and Point Value
This shift affects travelers who use Hyatt stays to earn airline points. Hyatt points often have higher value at luxury properties than many competitors. For American Airlines loyalists, the AAdvantage program relies on Loyalty Points to reach status tiers like Gold, Platinum, and Executive Platinum. The end of this partnership reduces one way to accumulate those points quickly.
Review your other earning options. AAdvantage miles are worth roughly 1.3 to 1.7 cents per mile. You can transfer Citi ThankYou Points to AAdvantage at a 1:1 ratio or Bilt Rewards at a 1:1 ratio. Marriott Bonvoy points transfer to AAdvantage at a 3:1 ratio.
Next Steps for Members
If you missed the Nov. 15 deadline, you will earn points at standard rates. To pad your Loyalty Point balance, use AAdvantage credit cards or shopping portals. If you have earned Hyatt awards through this partnership, redeem them before the 2026 and 2027 expiration dates.
