New 40,000-Square-Foot Admirals Club Lounge Coming to Charlotte
American Airlines is building a 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Learn about access and amenities.
New 40,000-Square-Foot Admirals Club Lounge Coming to Charlotte
American Airlines is beginning construction this year on a new 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
Details of the New Charlotte Lounge
The new lounge is located in the airport atrium on the mezzanine level. This central location provides views of the concourses below. The design reflects Charlotte’s character. It uses elements from the region’s tree canopy and textile history.
American Airlines will divide the space into distinct zones. These areas include spa-style shower suites. The lounge also features bars and serveries where travelers can dine or work.
“Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority,” said American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden.
Because construction occurs in the central atrium, travelers should expect higher noise levels and more congestion near the mezzanine level during peak morning and evening connection windows.
Current Lounge Access During Construction
Existing lounge spaces remain open during the building process. Travelers can still use the Provisions by Admirals Club lounge near Gate A1. The Admirals Club lounges in Concourse B and Concourse C/D are also available.
CLT is the second-largest hub for American Airlines. The airport connects passengers to more than 180 destinations in 27 countries. The airline operates over 650 peak daily flights through CLT.
“The plan for our new lounge at CLT represents our continued investment in the customer experience and reflects our long-standing commitment to Charlotte,” said American’s Senior Vice President of CLT Operations Ralph Lopez Massas.
Accessing the CLT Lounge via AAdvantage
Access to the Admirals Club depends on AAdvantage loyalty status or specific credit cards. Domestic travelers can enter with an Admirals Club membership, Oneworld status, or the Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard.
Citi/AAdvantage Globe Mastercard holders have an additional option. They can use one of four Admirals Club Globe passes, which are valid for 24 hours. If you do not have a membership or a qualifying card, you can purchase a One-Day Pass. These passes cost $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles.
When deciding between miles or cash, the math is clear. AAdvantage miles have a value between 1.3 and 1.7 cents per mile. At a value of 1.5 cents, 7,900 miles is worth roughly $118.50. Since the cash price for a day pass is $79, you should pay with cash to get the best value.
Members can accumulate miles through several transfer partners. Citi ThankYou Points and Bilt Rewards transfer to AAdvantage at a 1:1 ratio. Marriott Bonvoy transfers at a 3:1 ratio. This makes it easier to earn access to the new CLT lounge or book international flights with Oneworld partners like British Airways and Qatar Airways.
This expansion follows similar premium upgrades at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and planned Provisions lounges at JFK. While Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also refresh their club networks, American is focusing its investment on these major hubs.
Traveler Tips and Construction Impact
The 40,000-square-foot space provides more capacity than the current, smaller lounge locations. During the construction period, use the Provisions lounge near Gate A1 or the lounges in Concourse B and Concourse C/D to avoid the atrium works. If you need a single-day entry, use the $79 cash option. Using miles for a single-day pass is not the most efficient use of your points.
