New Curio Beach Resort in Dominican Republic
Hilton announces the Almare Beach Resort Las Terrenas, a new Hilton resort in the Dominican Republic. Learn about the Curio Collection opening in 2028.
Hilton signed the Almare Beach Resort Las Terrenas, a new Curio Collection property in the Dominican Republic, which is scheduled to open in 2028. The beachfront resort is located on the Samaná Peninsula in Las Terrenas. The property is owned by DACC Investment Blu SRL.
The Curio Collection Brand Context
This new resort joins the Curio Collection by Hilton, which occupies a specific niche in the Hilton hierarchy. Unlike the Waldorf Astoria brand, which follows strict, standardized luxury protocols, or the Canopy brand, which focuses on neighborhood-centric lifestyle stays, the Curio Collection consists of independent-style hotels.
These properties are individualistic and maintain their own unique character. This allows travelers to experience boutique, one-of-a-kind destinations while still using the Hilton Honors ecosystem. Because these hotels are part of the Hilton portfolio, guests can use their points for stays and earn elite status benefits, even though the hotel’s design and service style differ from a standard Hilton or DoubleTree.
Residential vs. Hotel Dynamics
The Almare Beach Resort uses a condo-hotel model. The development includes 252 total accommodations. This count consists of 90 traditional hotel rooms and 162 residential units. In this model, owners of the residential units can include their properties in the hotel’s room inventory when they are not using them.
This structure affects the guest experience in several ways. First, it creates a more lived-in, community atmosphere compared to the isolated feel of large all-inclusive resorts. Second, the mix of residential and hotel rooms often leads to more diverse room styles and layouts. Some ground-floor units feature private plunge pools for extra privacy. While the presence of permanent residents can change the social dynamic of a property, it often results in a more authentic, less manicured environment.
Resort Amenities and Features
The resort features several facilities centered on leisure and wellness. The property has four outdoor swimming pools, with designated areas for both families and adults. Other amenities include:
- A beach club with private cabanas
- A full-service spa
- A state-of-the-art fitness center
- Two padel courts
- Lush gardens and green spaces
- Multiple dining venues, such as a poolside bar and a signature beach club restaurant
Samaná Travel Logistics
Las Terrenas offers a different travel experience than the high-density resort zones of Punta Cana. The Samaná Peninsula is home to the mangroves and caves of Los Haitises National Park. Travelers often visit this region for whale watching between January and March.
To reach the resort, you can fly into El Catey International Airport (AZS). If you cannot find direct flights to AZS, you can fly into Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo. From Santo Domingo, the drive to Las Terrenas takes several hours via the Autovía del Samaná. This route provides access to more natural scenery than the highways around the major tourist hubs.
Hilton Honors Loyalty Value and Points Math
Using Hilton Honors points at a Curio Collection property is a way for travelers to access boutique hotels without leaving their loyalty program. Hilton Honors points generally have a value of 0.5 to 0.6 cents per point.
To understand the value, consider a traveler with 100,000 points. At a resort like the Almare Beach Resort, those points could cover several nights depending on the seasonal redemption rate. When compared to a Marriott Bonvoy property in the same region, Hilton often provides a better value for long stays because of the “5th night free” benefit on award stays. This benefit effectively reduces the cost of a five-night stay by 20% when using points. Marriott does not offer a standard uncapped free night certificate system in the same way.
Holders of the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card can earn points at a faster rate to fund these stays. You can also transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. This transfer ratio makes it easier to top up a balance for a specific luxury reservation in the Dominican Republic.
Planning Your Visit
Because the Almare Beach Resort Las Terrenas is not slated to open until 2028, you cannot book a stay today. If you want to visit the Samaná Peninsula before the resort opens, you should look for existing boutique accommodations in Las Terrenas. You can also monitor the Hilton Honors app for updates regarding the official opening date and booking window.
