Hilton Opens Its First Cave Hotel in Cappadocia
Experience Cappadocia's unique architecture at the new Elika Cave Suites Cappadocia, a Hilton cave hotel. Learn how to book with Hilton Honors points.
Hilton opened Elika Cave Suites Cappadocia, Curio Collection by Hilton, in Ortahisar, Türkiye. This marks the first time the brand has operated a hotel built within natural cave structures.
Inside the Elika Cave Suites
The hotel has 36 individually designed rooms and suites. It is a restoration of centuries-old cave dwellings that formed through volcanic activity and human labor over thousands of years. The architecture follows the original stone shapes, so no two rooms have the same layout or natural light.
Travelers can choose from several room categories. Some cave suites have private pools. Other suites include traditional Turkish hammams, fireplaces, or hot tubs. The property also has a villa with a glass-fronted infinity pool that connects the interior spaces to the outdoors. Each room uses local materials like stone, wood, ceramic, and textiles to match the history of the region.
The Curio Collection Brand Positioning
Elika Cave Suites is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, which is the company’s lifestyle brand. Curio Collection hotels are independent in character and design. They do not follow a standard corporate look. Instead, they focus on the local culture and the unique history of their location.
While these hotels feel like independent boutique properties, they use Hilton’s operational systems. This allows guests to stay in a highly unique setting without losing the reliability of a major hotel chain. The brand targets travelers who want a sense of place and a connection to the local environment. For a destination like Cappadocia, this positioning allows the hotel to lean into the cave architecture rather than fighting against it.
Anatolian Flavors and Cave Wellness
The hotel focuses on local Anatolian culture through its food and spa services. The onsite restaurant, Colastre, uses seasonal and local ingredients to make traditional Cappadocian and Anatolian dishes. The menu uses contemporary techniques to interpret old recipes and provides a sense of place for guests.
For wellness, the hotel has a spa designed around the natural elements of the region. The facility includes two treatment rooms, a hammam, a steam room, a sauna, and a rain shower. Because the spa is inside the cave structure, the environment is naturally quiet and cool. The hotel provides a traditional Turkish bath experience that integrates directly into the stone architecture.
Travel Logistics and Seasonal Advice
Reaching Ortahisar requires a flight to one of two nearby airports. Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) is the closest option for most travelers. Kayseri Erkiles Airport (ASR) is another choice and often has more international flight connections. Most travelers use private transfers or hotel shuttles to travel from the airport to the property. The drive from NAV is approximately 40 minutes.
When you visit, the time of year changes your experience. The best months for hot air ballooning are April through June and September through October. These months offer the most stable weather. Wind is the main reason balloon flights are canceled, and winter winds are often too strong.
Cave suites provide natural temperature regulation. The thick stone walls keep the rooms cool during the hot summer months. In the winter, the stone helps retain warmth, but you may still want to use the fireplaces in the suites. If you want to see the balloons, plan your trip for the spring or autumn to avoid frequent weather delays.
Maximizing Hilton Honors
As a Curio Collection property, Elika Cave Suites Cappadocia is part of the Hilton Honors program. This is a way for travelers to use points to pay for high-end boutique stays.
When you book, consider your point strategy. Hilton Honors points usually have a value between 0.5 and 0.6 cents per point. This value is lower than World of Hyatt, where points can be worth closer to 1.7 cents. However, Hilton has a much larger global footprint, which makes it easier to find availability.
If you use American Express Membership Rewards, you can transfer points to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. Hilton Honors members who book through Hilton.com or the mobile app also receive several benefits. These include a member discount, free standard Wi-Fi, and a flexible payment slider to combine points and cash.
Unlike Marriott Bonvoy, which often caps the value of free night certificates, Hilton Honors provides uncapped free night certificates through certain co-branded credit cards, such as the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. You can also use the “5th night free” benefit on award stays. This benefit lowers your average nightly cost if you stay in Cappadocia for five consecutive nights.
Planning Your Stay
This hotel is a choice for travelers who want a culturally rooted experience with the backing of a major brand. Because the hotel has only 36 rooms, you should book well in advance for peak travel seasons. If you are a Hilton Honors member, check your points balance or prepare an Amex transfer to secure a cave suite before they sell out.
