United Airlines Upgrades Premium Dining with New Menus
Experience better meals in the air as United Airlines premium dining gets a chef-led makeover. Learn how this affects your next Polaris flight.
United Airlines is introducing new chef-designed menus for its premium cabins to improve the international dining experience.
What to Expect in Polaris and Premium Plus
United is rolling out these updated menus on international long-haul routes and select domestic flights. The new menus target passengers in Polaris Business Class and Premium Plus. The airline works with chefs to create dishes that use high-quality ingredients. This initiative focuses on providing a refined culinary experience to match the premium cabin environments.
These changes apply to flights operated by United’s mainline fleet. You can expect to see the new menus on routes departing from major hubs like Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
Competition in the Premium Cabin
Meal quality is a major factor when travelers choose between airlines. As United expands these offerings, it competes with Delta Air Lines and American Airlines for business and leisure travelers. While Delta relies on the SkyTeam network and American focuses on Oneworld, United uses its Star Alliance advantage to pair global reach with a refined menu. The Star Alliance network provides United with extensive partner connections, which helps travelers access these premium meals on a wide range of global routes.
In the Polaris cabin, dining is a cornerstone of the long-haul experience. On a flight that lasts ten or more hours, the quality of a meal changes how you perceive the flight. This shift shows United is moving toward a luxury-focused service model to justify premium ticket prices.
How to Use MileagePlus for Premium Dining
The most effective way to try these menus is to book a Polaris seat using MileagePlus miles. Because United uses dynamic pricing, the cost in miles changes based on demand. You can find better value by booking well in advance. You can earn miles by transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards at a 1:1 ratio. Miles in the MileagePlus program generally have a value between 1.2 and 1.5 cents each.
If you are in Economy or Economy Plus, you can use Premier status or PlusPoints to secure an upgrade. This process differs from Delta’s system, which uses a complimentary upgrade waitlist. With United, you have more control over your upgrade path. You can target specific flights where the new dining service is active.
Traveler Options
Check your flight’s aircraft type before you book. These menus are primarily for long-haul international flights. If your flight does not include the new menus, you can check the United app to see if a Polaris upgrade is available for your route. You can also manage your meal preferences through the app after you confirm your reservation.
