Hilton to Open Flagship Hotel in Thessaloniki by 2029
Hilton is bringing its flagship brand to Thessaloniki, Greece. Learn about the new Hilton Thessaloniki opening in the historic FIX district in 2029.
Hilton will bring its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand to Greece’s second-largest city with the opening of the Hilton Thessaloniki in 2029. The announcement marks the brand’s first property in Thessaloniki.
Urban Regeneration in the FIX District
The hotel is part of a major redevelopment of the historic FIX district. DIMAND, a leading Greek real estate developer, is managing the regeneration of the former brewery site. This project transforms the area into a mixed-use urban destination. The masterplan for the district comes from the architectural firm Foster + Partners. Their design integrates modern buildings with the industrial history of the site. This renewal project will create a new hub for residents, businesses, and tourists in the western part of the city.
Hilton Thessaloniki Property Details
The Hilton Thessaloniki will feature 184 guest rooms across two buildings. A new main hotel building will contain 154 rooms. The property also includes a restored heritage building with 30 rooms. This second building celebrates the history of the original FIX brewery. The hotel’s location in the heart of the revitalized district places it at the center of the city’s new cultural and commercial landscape.
Thessaloniki as a Cultural and Business Hub
Thessaloniki is a primary economic center for northern Greece. The city hosts many international trade fairs and business conferences. This makes the city an important market for the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand. Beyond business, the city has a strong cultural identity. It is a center for art, music, and gastronomy. The combination of corporate travel and cultural tourism provides a stable foundation for the new hotel. The property will likely attract visitors who want to explore the Macedonian region.
Navigating Thessaloniki
Most travelers arrive via Thessaloniki Airport (SKG). The airport provides direct connections to several major European cities. You can reach the city center from the airport by taxi or public bus. The best months to visit Thessaloniki are May, June, September, and October. These months offer mild weather for exploring the city. If you visit in July or August, you should prepare for high heat and larger crowds. The city sits on the Thermaic Gulf, and the waterfront is a central location for walks and outdoor activities.
Leveraging Hilton Honors
Travelers can use the Hilton Honors program to navigate the growing hotel market in Greece. Hilton has more than 70 properties in the country. This portfolio includes brands like Conrad Athens The Ilisian and Sandblu Santorini, LXR Hotels & Resorts. You can earn points through stays or by using Hilton Honors American Express credit cards. The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is a useful tool for frequent travelers.
Hilton Honors points have a value of approximately 0.5 to 0.6 cents each. This value is lower than Hyatt points, which are worth about 1.7 cents. However, Hilton has a much larger selection of properties in Greece. You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. This is a practical way to build a balance for high-end stays.
A major benefit is the fifth night free on award stays. This rule lowers your average cost per night when you book with points. Unlike the Marriott Bonvoy program, which often uses capped certificates, Hilton offers uncapped free night certificates through certain American Express cards. The program also has no blackout dates on standard room awards. This gives you more flexibility when you book during peak Greek holiday seasons.

If you plan to visit Thessaloniki before 2029, you cannot stay at the Hilton Thessaloniki yet. You should look for alternative hotels in the city center or near the waterfront. If you have existing Hilton reservations in Greece, you can manage them through the Hilton Honors app. This new announcement does not change any current hotel bookings.
Looking Ahead to 2029
The opening of the Hilton Thessaloniki is a long-term investment in a growing market. The 2029 launch will place a flagship brand at the center of the FIX district. This project connects the industrial past of the brewery with the modern future of the city.
