Kyoto to Get First Motto by Hilton Lifestyle Hotel

Hilton is bringing its Motto lifestyle brand to Japan with a new Hilton hotel in Kyoto scheduled for 2029. See what this means for your future trips.

Kyoto to Get First Motto by Hilton Lifestyle Hotel

Hilton and Heiwa Real Estate Co. announced that the first Motto by Hilton hotel in Japan will open in Kyoto in 2029. The Motto by Hilton Kyoto Shijo Karasuma will mark the brand’s debut in the country.

Details of the Motto Kyoto Shijo Karasuma

The property will have 108 guest rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, and a lounge with an open terrace. The hotel targets travelers who want social spaces and proximity to local culture.

The location is a two-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line and Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line. Guests can walk to Nishiki Market, the Gion district, and the Higashiyama area. The Shijo Kawaramachi shopping and dining hub is also within walking distance.

Motto’s Growing Global Footprint

This signing is the first for the Motto brand in Japan. Motto connects guests to their surroundings through social common spaces and flexible room designs. There are 13 Motto hotels currently active in urban and resort destinations, and more than 24 more are under development.

Recent openings include locations in Nashville and Brazil. Planned properties include Paris, Shanghai, and Sydney. Hilton expands its Kyoto portfolio with this signing. The company has opened five hotels in the city over the last five years. Once this property opens, Hilton will have seven hotels in Kyoto. This total includes an upcoming Curio Collection by Hilton property.

This expansion helps Hilton compete with lifestyle brands like Marriott. Marriott uses the Moxy brand to target travelers who want social atmospheres and central locations. While Hilton has luxury options in Kyoto, such as ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts, Motto provides accommodation for solo travelers and small groups.

Accessing Kyoto’s Cultural Districts

Kyoto requires efficient transit to reach major sites. Staying near the Shijo and Karasuma stations provides an advantage. These stations connect to the subway and the Hankyu line. The Hankyu line is a primary route to Osaka.

Guests at the Motto property can visit the Higashiyama district or the food stalls at Nishiki Market. For business travelers, these transit lines make commuting to Kyoto Station faster. The hotel acts as a base for travelers who want to move through the city easily.

Maximizing Hilton Honors for a Kyoto Trip

Guests can use Hilton Honors points to book stays at this property. Hilton Honors points have a value of approximately 0.5 to 0.6 cents. This is lower than Hyatt points, but Hilton offers more ways to earn them.

You can accumulate points through the Hilton Honors American Express Card or the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. You can also transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio.

The “5th night free” benefit is a way to use points effectively. When you book an award stay for five consecutive nights, the fourth night is free. This is a benefit Marriott does not offer in the same way. Hilton Honors members who book directly can also use a flexible payment slider to combine points and cash. This helps if you are a few thousand points short of an award stay.

Planning Your Future Kyoto Stay

A 2029 opening means this news is for long-term planning. The hotel is an option for travelers who want a social, centrally located base instead of a traditional luxury resort. If you prefer modern amenities and subway access, this hotel fits that profile. Travelers can monitor Hilton’s corporate newsroom for booking updates as 2029 approaches.
